Autumn marketplace promotions: prepare before Black Friday
An autumn campaign needs more than a discount. Choose the right products, confirm your eligibility and keep track of your margin.

A marketplace invites you to join a campaign. You need to propose products, a discount and available stock, sometimes at short notice. Before replying, ask what you want from the event. Clearing a discontinued line, introducing a range and increasing sales on one channel call for different product selections.
Autumn needs a plan of its own, not a last-minute rehearsal for Black Friday. Here is how to prepare the next campaigns without committing your entire catalogue or giving away your margin.
Start with the seller calendar, not the homepage banner
Retailers do not all follow the same schedule. Amazon has announced Prime Big Deal Days for 6 and 7 October 2026 in France. These are the public campaign dates: check your seller account for eligibility and offer submission deadlines. Amazon’s official announcement.
For Maisons du Monde, La Redoute, Fnac Darty and your other channels, ask which campaigns your seller account can join, their conditions and the submission deadline. A public campaign name does not establish your eligibility.
The Fnac French Days page, for example, presents the event to shoppers. It does not confirm your store’s participation or the terms that apply to your offers. Ask your marketplace contact for those details.
Record two separate dates: when you must submit offers and when the promotion starts. Add the approval lead time, eligible countries and any participation or visibility fees. Until you have written confirmation, label the event “to confirm”.
Choose a short list with a clear purpose
Start with products you can actually deliver. A popular item with very little stock may be a poor choice. Another may have a complete listing, enough inventory and sufficient contribution after the discount.
For each item, bring together the promotional price, purchase cost, commissions, preparation, delivery and planned advertising spend. Allow for returns too. Set the minimum result you are prepared to accept, instead of applying one discount percentage to the whole range.
Your selection should answer three questions: why this product, how many units can you commit, and what remains after the costs included in your calculation? An item that fails that check can stay at its regular price.
An October discount can affect a later promotion
In France, a price-reduction announcement must generally use the lowest consumer price charged during the previous thirty days as its reference. The law includes a specific rule for certain successive reductions. Article L112-1-1 of the French Consumer Code.
Keep a record of prices and promotions. A recent discount can fall within the reference period for the next campaign. This does not mean every October promotion affects Black Friday: the actual dates matter. Have unusual promotional arrangements checked before displaying them. The DGCCRF e-commerce seller guide explains precautions for price-reduction announcements.
Allocate stock and check the whole order journey
The same unit should not be promised on three channels. Decide how much stock is available for the campaign, which other sales you need to support and what safety buffer suits your operation.
Before launch, review an offer as a buyer would: image, variant, price, delivery time, shipping fees and returns terms. Then check what reaches the team: product reference, address, shipping method and the information customer service needs. If order volumes rise, someone must be responsible for monitoring stockouts and pausing an offer when necessary.
A simple working schedule
This is a suggested preparation plan, not a timetable set by marketplaces. Their deadlines take priority.
If you use an integration platform, check the promotion’s start and end dates, then confirm that the marketplace has received them correctly. A mismatch may prevent an offer from qualifying for the campaign or receiving a promotional badge, such as Black Friday. These placements depend on each marketplace’s rules.
| Suggested timing | Work to complete | Expected output |
|---|---|---|
| Four weeks before | Confirm participation and select products | A shortlist with minimum prices and available stock |
| Two weeks before | Submit offers and correct rejections | Accepted offers and complete product listings |
| Three days before | Check prices, stock and promotion dates in your integration platform, if you use one | Dates that match the campaign and customer support ready for the peak |
| During the campaign | Monitor order volumes, adjust handling times and respond to customer enquiries | Realistic lead times for new orders and responsive customer support |
| After the campaign | Identify best sellers and track deliveries | Customers receiving their orders, enquiries followed up and an initial review to update as returns arrive |
During the peak, match your advertised handling time, also called *lead time to ship*, to your actual capacity. If orders start to pile up, extend it for new orders, within the marketplace’s permitted limits. This does not change the commitments made for orders already placed. Customer support needs to respond quickly throughout the campaign, not just on launch day.
The promotion may be over, but the work is not. Identify your best sellers, make sure orders reach your customers and keep support responsive to delays, damaged products and returns. Then complete your review with fees, advertising, returns and refunds. This helps you choose which products to promote in November without relying on revenue alone.
